Consumers Credit Union Announces New Financial Empowerment Center in Aurora, Illinois

Released August 26, 2025

Aurora, Illinois – August 26, 2025: Consumers Credit Union (CCU; 4.3 Billion, Lake Forest, IL), is thrilled to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Financial Empowerment Center, located within SD129’s West Aurora High School. The new location, aimed at providing financial literacy resources to the staff and students, will host informational seminars as well as a variety of educational opportunities for the district.

“Providing financial education resources to students will help them the rest of their lives,” said Sean Rathjen, CEO of Consumers Credit Union. “This is a natural, and beneficial, extension of the longstanding partnership with School District 129.”

Dr. Angie Smith, SD129 Associate Superintendent of Operations & CCU Board Member, said the center is a highly anticipated addition for the school, and elaborated on why investing in projects that make financial education accessible is so important.

"We are excited to further expand our partnership, which began under the leadership of the Kane County Teachers Credit Union and has continued to grow as part of Consumers Credit Union. As a CCU board member, I am proud of our service to the students and staff of School District 129. As a district administrator, I am grateful for the opportunity for our students to gain real-world experience, for our school community to access financial literacy resources and products, and for our district to receive continued financial support through the affinity credit card program and internal purchasing cards.”

Dr. Smith continued, noting that “This partnership is a strong example of how the public and private

sectors can work together to benefit our community."

The Grand Opening will include a formal ribbon cutting as well as remarks from Consumers Credit Union CEO Sean Rathjen, West Aurora School District 129 Associate Superintendent of Operations & CCU Board Member Dr. Angie Smith, West Aurora High School Principal Dr. Whitney Martino, and Mr. Rich Kerns, SD129 Board of Education President.

An Affinity Partnership Program showcase, highlighting funds that the community has raised in support of the district via the Affinity and Internal Purchasing Card programs, will also be included.

The event will take place after-hours on Tuesday, August 26th from 4pm - 5:30pm.
